Grey Street Blog

Welcome to the Grey Street Images Blog.  I prefer to use this as an area to showcase my workflow and thoughts as well as a few random photos here and there.  I will post current projects that I am working on and samples from shoots here regularly.  I hope that everyone enjoys it.

First dark skies of 2017

On a trip to Door County over Memorial Day weekend I decided to head out to find some dark skies. The weather was perfect with the moon setting at 130am and clear skies forecasted. I woke at 145am and set out to Anderson dock in Ephraim for a few time exposures.  That location has a great view of the Southern sky. I set up my tripod and a red lantern to preserve my night vision and started shooting. Here are a few results....

Kristin, Class of 2017

I met Kristin, her mom, and her little bro out at the Sun Prairie High School track and then a short drive to Burke Park for photos  the other night.  Cool setups, a little off camera flash...  I like the results.

First Dark Sky of 2015

During my recent trip up to the Door I was lucky enough to have a clear night to practice my astrophotography.  These were between 0315 and 0400 on April 28th, 2015.  This first one is my favorite.  Focus is my crux at this point but its getting better.  I blame the operator for most of it but my equipment may also be to blame.  Rome wasn't built in a day...

A Second Attempt at the Night Sky Yields Better Results!

These turned out much better than my first attempt last week.  The clouds looked really excellent.  All were about 20-30 second exposures with a kit 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 Nikkor.  With so much light pollution I'm surprised at how bright the milky way was.  I can't wait to try some out with better glass on a D800E.

The night sky...

My first somewhat successful attempt at astrophotography.  I was out experimenting for 30 minutes or so and ended up with a few interesting shots.  It is amazing just how many stars there are, and only some are visible to the naked eye.  It helped to be in Door County where there is little to no light pollution.  Maybe someday I will be able to stay up late enough for the milky way to rise.  More to come...

Mini Murphy

What a little nugget this guy is!  All I've got to say is that he is super cute and has a social calendar to be envious of.  He dashed out of our session to head off to Family Night at Camp Randall.  Glad to share this preview of his 3 month photo shoot with you.  Thanks, L & J !!!

I'm Almost 3!!!

Someone is almost 3... Soooo... a photo shoot was the only answer.  It happened today and it was great.  What a little model.  Thanks guys.  P.S.  We didn't find any bears in the woods :)

What a Beautiful Night... Perfect!

The other night I met up with Rachel for her senior photo session.  We had a great time at Olbrich Gardens and then ventured west to the secret spot for the sunset.  What a beautiful night with a beautiful & creative girl.

Maxaroni havin' a little melon!

...so we grabbed Max and a watermelon and went off to the secret spot in the hood.  Unfortunately, when we got there we realized that the City had chopped down all of the beautiful wild flowers that were there last week.  It was still pretty and Max enjoyed his tasty snack.  Thanks Momma for the great idea!!

More From July 4th in Fish Creek

Things have been very busy this month and I finally  had a chance to offload the photos from my camera from the past few weeks and do a little editing.  These are few from our visit to the Door over the 4th of July.  Enjoy :)

This is my favorite one of Max.  He looks like he is seriously loving everything!
